student athletes

Welcome to St. Ignatius Rowing, where we cater to a range of interests and skill levels with our unique programs. Our Middle School Program offers a unique opportunity to discover rowing and discover firsthand what life is like as a student-athlete at St. Ignatius. The Learn to Row Program guides high school newcomers to the fundamentals and helps them determine if they are ready to join our competitive racing team. High school athletes can refine their skills in the Fall Rowing Development Team and participate in exciting fall regattas. For those seeking the thrill of competitive rowing and the pride of representing their school - our St. Ignatius Spring Racing Season provides a platform to showcase their talents on a broader national stage. At St. Ignatius, we believe in nurturing a love for rowing at every level, offering a comprehensive pathway for personal and athletic development.

Middle School Clinics

Rowing in middle school is a fantastic way to capture the attention of our dedicated rowing coaches, who are always on the lookout for passionate and determined individuals. By identifying yourself as a student-athlete with a keen interest in rowing, you are not just expressing a passion for the sport but signaling a commitment to becoming an integral part of the vibrant St. Ignatius community.

Our two day clinics are designed for Middle Schoolers interested in learning the basics of rowing and experiencing the fun and camaraderie that come with the sport. Participants must be at least 12 years old, entering 7th grade or above, comfortable around the water, and able to swim. Due to high demand, this program typically has a waitlist as we do not accept athletes into the program for safety reasons when we are at capacity.

This sport speaks volumes about your character and work ethic, and you're not just joining a sport; you're embracing a community that values teamwork, discipline, and growth. At St. Ignatius, we invite you to preview the unparalleled opportunities our school offers, both academically and athletically. Train in state-of-the-art facilities, and let rowing be your pathway to success.

novice rowing & racing

Our Rowing Foundations program is designed for SI student-athletes who are new to high school rowing—whether they’re true beginners curious about the sport, or athletes with some prior experience.

We offer two club seasons aligned with the school calendar, making it easier for student-athletes to participate throughout the year.  Athletes new to the sport are introduced to the basics of sweep rowing, while those with middle school experience have the chance to refine their technique and continue building strength and endurance.

All participants will develop essential skills in boat handling, water safety, and the fundamentals of rowing. Training is conducted in small groups to ensure personalized coaching, with sessions held both on the water and on indoor rowing machines (ergs) for a well-rounded learning experience. On-your-own workouts provided during school breaks.

Athletes will also have the chance to race in local head races, where they’ll experience the power of teamwork and gain exposure to racing etiquette.

At SI Rowing, we believe all student-athletes should have the opportunity to be part of a team and experience the value of sportsmanship, collaboration, and shared goals. That’s why our Novice Foundations season has a zero-cut policy—everyone who signs up is welcome.

Please note that participants who register for the Fall Club Season will also receive a discounted rate for the Winter Club Season.
