The Saint Ignatius Women's Rowing Team has wrapped up a standout fall season, showcasing determination, skill, and team spirit at regattas across the West Coast. Competing at three challenging races—Head of the Port, Head of the American, and Head of the Lake—the team has delivered impressive performances that reflect their hard work, grit, and cohesive team culture.
The season began with a remarkable debut at the Head of the Port in Sacramento. The novice rowers made an inspiring first appearance, with the Women's Novice 8+ A boat, led by stroke seat Tatum Barrett, clinching 1st place and the Novice 8+ B boat taking 2nd. Only six weeks into their training, these novice rowers showed incredible progress and resilience, setting the tone for a promising season. Additionally, the Junior 8+ and Junior 4+ squads put forth a strong effort, further highlighting the depth of talent in the program.
Building on this momentum, the team returned to Sacramento for the Head of the American Regatta, where the Novice Girls A boat once again captured gold, with a commanding 22-second lead over the next competitor. The Novice B boat followed suit with a solid 5th place in a large field, underscoring the growth of this new cohort. The Varsity 8+ secured an impressice 5th place in the most competitive field, ahead of several club teams, a testament to the strength and drive of St. Ignatius athletes competing as a high school team against rowing clubs. The JV 8+ showed resilience, claiming 6th and adding to a day of hard-fought victories.
The fall season concluded on a high note with a trip to Seattle for the Head of the Lake regatta, where Saint Ignatius competed on the storied Montlake Cut. The Varsity 8+, under the expert guidance of coxswain Sofia Filice, secured a 3rd place finish in a field of top West Coast crews. The 2V crew also excelled, capturing 2nd place among the 'B' boats and setting their fastest split of the season. Both crews demonstrated incredible cohesion and showcased the results of their rigorous fall training.
The Saint Ignatius Women's Rowing Team enters the winter break with renewed confidence and unity. This season's successes are a testament to the talent and dedication of these athletes, the leadership of senior rowers, and the strength of the team's culture. As they prepare for the upcoming spring season, the team is eager to build on this momentum and reach new heights.
