We are thrilled to highlight senior Catherine Alcantara, a standout on the women's rowing team at St. Ignatius College Preparatory, who has been recruited to row D1 for the University of Michigan. Catherine's journey to this moment has been marked by dedication, hard work, and outstanding achievements both on and off the water.
Catharine's decision to join the University of Michigan was thoughtful and significantly influenced by the welcoming atmosphere of the team. She expressed, "The team at Michigan was everything I hoped for in a college experience. The facilities were outstanding, and the girls on the team made me feel at home." Needless to say, she is excited about the new chapter in her rowing career. Catherine will enroll in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA) at Michigan, where she plans to continue her academic and athletic pursuits, demonstrating her commitment to both areas. We are confident that Catherine will be an excellent contributor to the Wolverines.
But this honor was not bestowed on Catherine without tremendous hard work and dedication. She has maintained her place on the honor roll for all four years of high school. Catherine came to the sport as a multi-sport athlete who excelled in field hockey, soccer, and rowing until her junior year when she decided to focus solely on rowing. As a three-time West Coast Scholastic Champion, she has represented SI in the Women's Varsity eight at the SRAA National championships since her sophomore year. Her leadership skills have shone brightly as a team captain, and her coaches recognized her with the AMDG award. Together with co-captain Olivia O'Neill, it recognizes those athletes who are never complacent, never satisfied, and always strive for excellence.
Her achievements have set a high standard and exemplified the spirit of perseverance and excellence abundant in this incredible team of athletes. We invite you to follow Catherine's journey and cheer her on as she embarks on this exciting new chapter at The University of Michigan. You can keep up with her updates on social media:
